We continue to wait for GHSA to release guidelines on when we may resume high school sports. There is an indication we may have an opportunity for something in June but nothing is set just yet. If we are allowed back in the gym over the summer, we are hopeful we can host open gyms for anyone interested in playing volleyball. But again, nothing is certain yet.
While we are eager to get back in the gym and host tryouts, the coaches have decided to postpone those tryouts until closer to the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Again, we are not able to set dates and make plans just yet but we are considering having tryouts around the last week of July.
Because of the COVID-19 crisis, GHSA is granting a little leniency when it comes to physicals. If you have a physical that will expire over the summer, you are covered until July 27, 2020. If your physical expires before the last official day of school, you will still have to get a new one before you can participate in tryouts. If we do not have a physical on file at all, you will still need one. From GHSA:
“1. Athletes with physicals valid through the end of this school year are given an exception through July 27, 2020. At that time a new physical for 2020-2021 must be on file prior to participation.
2. Any athlete whose physical expired prior to the end of the school year must have a current physical on file prior to participation.
3. Any student new to your school must have a current physical on file prior to participation. If the student is a transfer and brings a physical with them, it must meet the criteria listed above.”
